I use this concept, specifically in anaerobic-sprint based conditioning work, to help athletes drive themselves far beyond what they thought they were capable of. So far beyond, in fact, that they lose the self-preservation instinct to save enough energy to make it back for another round. Once familiar with The Unknown, the athlete’s mind will become conditioned to this effort and output.
