3 tips to enhance performance

While I could easily reel off a list of probably 25-30 tips for naturally enhancing athletic performance for fight athletes, I have refined it down to my top 3. These are three things that everyone can do, and everyone can start doing RIGHT NOW. As they say, ‘where there is a will, there is a way’, and if there is one common characteristic between all of the successful fight athletes I have worked with - it is an indomitable will.

So if you want to start making some positive changes right now that will translate to how you function and feel in your sport. Give these a try.

#3 Go to bed earlier - I am not trying to sound like a mother here, but if you want to perform at your highest level, you simply MUST respect your recovery cycles and be constantly trying to optimise them. Getting the right amount of sleep is the first step in the right direction towards optimal rest and recovery. This will mean increased work capacity, enhanced neurological function, reaction time, attention and skill acquisition, aptitude and decision making, stress reduction, as well as the energy you need to make it through all your training sessions while remaining injury free. The road to the top is paved with sacrifices, so why not cut out an hour or two of watching bullshit television or mindlessly scrolling through social media feeds at night?

#2 Stop filling your body with toxins and drink more water - While I don’t claim to be an expert in the nutrition field, I have been around the field long enough and know enough to be able to comment on what an elite fight athlete doesn’t need to be filling their body with. Toxic foods and toxins are everywhere; processed foods, empty and nutritionally dead foods, fast food, sugar-dense foods, foods with ingredients lists you can’t pronounce, excessive alcohol, party drugs, do I need to continue? You know this, have some goddamn self respect and stop filling your body with shit! Once you get into healthy eating patterns, and cut out the above, you will find that the rare times you cave in and ingest this crap you will actually get a hangover from it. It will surprise you how different you will feel from consciously cutting out the fucking garbage which you know is not helping you.

#1 Invest in a structured Strength & Conditioning program - How shameless of me, right? No seriously, there are lots of coaches and online coaching programs out there to help guide you towards reaching your potential for optimal performance. You don’t have to spend a fortune, but you will generally get what you pay for in this industry. Nothing of value comes without a cost, and you generally don’t fully appreciate something that was handed to you for free. So if you want the competitive edge, take the step and invest in professional guidance. My team and I are ready and able to help you both online and in-person.
