About Macgregor McNair
"The Unknown is a concept I use to describe that terrifying place beyond your comfort zone. I use this concept, specifically in anaerobic-sprint based conditioning work, to help athletes drive themselves far beyond what they thought they were capable of. So far beyond, in fact, that they lose the self-preservation instinct to save enough energy to make it back for another round. Once familiar with The Unknown, the athlete's mind will become conditioned to this effort and output. With consistency in training to reach The Unknown, the athlete's capabilities never shrink back to their original dimensions." Macgregor McNair.
The Unknown Strength & Conditioning founder, Macgregor McNair, is a firm believer in the concepts and principles taught by Charles Poliquin and the Poliquin Group. Mac is constantly learning and growing his knowledge base and skill set to stay ahead of the game. Out of the myriad of training certifications out there, there is only ONE that requires you to demonstrate an appropriate level of expertise before becoming fully certified, the Poliquin International Certification Program (PICP), designed by Charles Poliquin. Universally recognized as the most successful strength coach in the world, Charles Poliquin has coached Olympic medalists in 19 different sports and world record holders in 11 sports.
Having completed Poliquin International Certification Program (P.I.C.P) Levels 1,2 & 3, Mac has established himself among the few strength coaches in Australia qualified to such a high level. In order to be officially recognised as a Level 3 PICP Strength & Conditioning Coach, Mac was required to coach an athlete to a National Championship in their respective sport. In 2014, Mac earned his PICP level 3 by taking the role of Strength & Conditioning Coach for an up-and-coming Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighter. After 8 months of intelligent programming and hard work with Mac, the young fighter won Gold medals in both the AFBJJ Australian Champions Cup BJJ Tournament, and the AFBJJ Pan Pacific Jiu Jitsu Championships.
In 2015, Mac was awarded the highest achievement in the PICP Strength Coaching pathway: PICP Level 5 Strength and Conditioning Specialist. This is largely recognised as the highest honour for any Strength coach worldwide. In order to be officially recognised as a Level 5 PICP Strength & Conditioning Specialist, Mac was required to coach an athlete to a World Championship in their respective sport, or an Olympic Gold Medal. Mac earned his Level 5 by coaching Shantelle Thompson to the Gold medal in the 2015 IBJJF World Championships and the title of 2015 National Wrestling Champion, she also went on to win Gold at the 2016 IBJJF World Championships under Mac's guidance. Mac is one of only four active PICP level 5 coaches in Australia.
